ABSTRAK UNTUK 2nd RCELAM 2011 DI IAB CAWANGAN UTARA PADA 4-7 JULAI 2011

“Excellent teachers” are often seen as the expert in subjects taught in schools and their contribution towards the students are only measured by the rate of success among the students. Very seldom do we come across researches that are carried with regards to the leadership of these “excellent teachers”. According to the term and reference brought forward by the phrase “Excellent Teachers”, these teachers do not only perform in classrooms but also take a leadership post in schools to help develop events that would benefit the development of the school. “Excellent teachers” also represent schools at various levels, including the district, state and national level to make certain collective decisions at respective levels. They also play a significant role in cultivating excellence and professionalism among their colleagues. They tend to take up roles as advisors when it comes to issues regarding duties of their fellow teachers. In addition, they also strengthen the decision making process in schools. The research that I am conducting now would answer certain relevant questions that I have brought about in my research which is: a) What is leadership among “excellent teachers”? b) To what extend does this leadership contribute towards the effectiveness of the schools? And c) how can we form these leadership skills among the “excellent teachers”? This research is based on the Kenneth Leatherwood model. Certain inputs of leadership skills among the “excellent teachers” have been identified such as “Excellent Teachers” unique features, “the ability of “Excellent Teachers”, the practice of “Excellent Teachers” and the outcome or product of these “Excellent Teachers”. The main objective of this research is to determine to what extend do these features affects the effectiveness of a school. These four inputs will be divided into smaller sub-units. Each sub-unit is then modified into a question which will be included in a set of questionnaires. These questionnaires will then be distributed to 200 “Excellent Teachers” in the state of Penang. All the answers by the respondents will then be analysed according to a certain percentage, frequency of occurrence and mean. However, in a whole, we can conclude that the9 leadership of “excellent teachers” is a new concept and is useful towards the development and the effectiveness of a school.-TRANSLATED BY D.
